Bamboo tissue vs virgin wood-pulp tissue

Published 5 October 2026By GramBask

Bamboo tissue has moved from a niche import to a mainstream line in Indian and Gulf retail. If you are deciding whether to stock it, switch your hotel to it or launch a private label on it, here is how it compares with the virgin wood-pulp tissue most buyers know.

What bamboo tissue is

Bamboo tissue is made from bamboo pulp instead of wood pulp. Bamboo is a grass: after harvest it regrows from its root system without replanting and reaches usable size in a few years, where plantation trees take decades. The fibre is long and naturally soft, and the finished tissue contains no plastic and breaks down after use.

Who should buy bamboo tissue

  • Hotels and resorts with sustainability targets or eco-conscious guests; bamboo tissue in rooms is a visible, low-cost signal.
  • Retail chains and online sellers that want a premium, green line next to their standard tissue.
  • Corporate gifting and welcome kits.
  • Private label brands built on sustainability.

Who should stay with virgin wood-pulp tissue

High-volume general trade, counters and dispensers, where price per sheet decides the sale and the customer does not see the brand story. Most GramBask distributors carry both: virgin hard and soft tissue for volume, bamboo tissue for premium outlets.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is bamboo tissue better for the environment than regular tissue?

Bamboo regrows from its roots in a few years without replanting, so the raw material cycle is far shorter than for trees, and the tissue is biodegradable. Processing and transport still matter, which is why we make ours under ISO 14001.

Is bamboo tissue more expensive?

Usually a little, because bamboo pulp costs more. For premium retail, hotels and gifting the difference is small relative to the positioning.

Is bamboo tissue soft?

Yes. Bamboo fibre is long and naturally soft, and most buyers find bamboo tissue at least as gentle as virgin wood-pulp tissue.
